Social Event

CosmoCaixa Barcelona

The social event for ESUG 2010 will take place at CosmoCaixa Barcelona, the Science Museum of Barcelona. Located in a beautiful modernist building from 1904, it opened its doors in 1981, though it was deeply reformed six years ago.

Museum

CosmoCaixa Barcelona has an huge variety of content and an innovative layout, turning it into one of the most modern museums of its kind. The new building increases the scientific offer of its predecessor. This amazing museum has been heralded as the finest science museum in Europe.

The exhibitions are distributed throughout various rooms, including the Amazon Forest, the Geological Wall, Planetarium, etc. Visitors are invited to interact with many of the scientific experiments, making the whole experience richer and more entertaining.

The plan

We will get a coach at the venue at 4pm approx., arriving at Cosmocaixa around 4:30pm - 5pm. There will be some time to visit the museum. At 6:45pm we all will go to the Agora room (floor -2) in order to attend the somewhat misterious Secret Talks. At 7:30pm, also at the Agora room, there will be the Awards Ceremony, until 8pm.

Placaciencia1Placaciencia2

We will enjoy an outdoors dinner at 8pm at Plaça de la Ciència, a wonderful place, where small talk will be fostered by an open and friendly atmosphere.

Getting to CosmoCaixa (only for those not getting the coach at the venue)

From Citilab it is very easy. In front of Citilab we take the Tram (any will do, direction Francesc Macià) until we get to Palau Reial (20 minutes approx.). There we should go out the Tram and walk to the bus stop, line number 60 (see map). There we should take the bus 60 and that's it. After 30 minutes (approx.) we will arrive at CosmoCaixa.

Also, bus lines 17, 22, 58 and 75 and FGC (Catalan Trains, station Avinguda del Tibidabo) get you from Barcelona downtown to Plaça John Fitzgerald Kennedy. From this plaça you may get to CosmoCaixa with bus line 196, or just walking.
