Affordable Rooms with a View

We have arranged a good price (a very good price for central Edinburgh in festival time) in Edinburgh University's Pollock Halls.

  • Pleasant location by Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Park.
  • In walking distance of the venue and the centre of Edinburgh.
  • Campus facilities (shop, laundrette, etc.), 24-hour access (i.e. for late-arriving flights), etc.
  • All rates include a breakfast reviewers describe as "full Scottish", "all you can eat".
  • £36/night for standard single, £65/night for superior single: see Notes below for details.

(The room list is not the same as the conference registration list because a few people will not need these rooms, as they live in Edinburgh or will make other arrangements. It is sensible to use the same email address and password for both lists - less for you to remember.)

Edinburgh is popular in festival time, so other central accommodation can be already booked or be costly or both. We strongly recommend you put yourself on our room list along with registering unless you know where you will be staying instead.

Notes

The £36/night rooms (example shown left) are typical undergraduate student accommodation single rooms (except for the splendid location, and the views that many of them have).

There are also some superior single rooms at £65/night and twin rooms at £81/night (as for the standard rooms, both rates include breakfast). If you would prefer a non-standard room, select it in the drop-down field when you make your reservation.

Superior room availabllity is now very limited. I may have to allocate a standard single for any unavailable nights at the start or end of the date range (and will tell you).

A twin room costs a little more than two standard singles. Twin room availability is now almost exhausted. I will allocate two adjacent standard single rooms whenever I cannot provide a requested twin for all or most of the date range (and will tell you).

Our £36/night rate is a 20% discount on the £45/night charged to the general public for these rooms in August (itself a good rate for central area accommodation in festival time). Part of getting the discount is that we pay before entry, not on checkout. An invoice will be sent to you before the conference.

The reviewers (who were paying those higher prices in season) are (with, I should note, one exception) positive about location, presentation and value for money.
